How well do you know your skin?
Composed of three layers, with each one having an important role to play.
- Epidermis – the outermost layer. This is your protective, waterproof barrier and where most of your skin bacteria are found.
- Dermis – the middle layer. Found just beneath the epidermis, this contains your hair follicles, our sebaceous (oil-producing) glands and your sweat glands.
- Subcutaneous tissue (fat) – the bottom layer. This protects your bones and muscles, helps regulate body temperature, and acts as a passageway for nerves and blood vessels from the dermis to the muscles.
