Skin Health FAQs

What is the gut skin axis?

The gut skin axis is the technical way of saying the gut and skin can talk to each other. Meaning that what you put in your body can impact your skin.

How does gut health affect the skin?

Gut health affects pretty much all the organs in the body. Healthy gut, healthy everything else.

What's the most common harmful bacteria that affects human skin?

The most common harmful bacterium is staphylococcus aureus. It causes a range of infections from relatively minor ones to very serious, if it gets into the bloodstream.

What types of bacteria can be found on human skin?

Skin is home to thousands of kinds of bacteria. Skin is not a uniform structure. Some parts are very dry, other parts oily, and some moist.

These are the areas that sweat the most. Different bacteria prefer these different areas of the skin for their moist, dry and oily properties.

What is the microbiome?

The microbiome refers to the collection of the trillions of microbes living in and on the human body. Bacteria play a supportive role in our immune system, the strength of our gut barrier, aid in digestion and make essential molecules and vitamins that we cannot make for ourselves. They are also known to play a role in crowding out pathogens and in helping us to stay healthy.

How can I help my microbiome?

Diet is one of the major factors that shapes our microbiome, and its influence is seen from infancy to old age. All components of the diet influence the composition of our microbiome but in simple terms a diverse diet is good, and fruits, vegetables and fibre are good in promoting a diverse and healthy microbiome.

People are also increasingly adding live bacteria to their diet either by eating specific foods or by taking supplements of live bacteria. These supplements are often sometimes called probiotics, that are live microorganisms that provide health benefits when consumed.

How does gut bacteria affect your microbiome?

The microbiome is a collection of bacteria etc. It doesn't usually let much in, but on occasion, if we swallow a bacteria that shouldn't be there, it can take over the gut microbiome. Sometimes that happens in things like antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. Studies have shown that there ca be positive impact with bacteria too.

What is the role of gut microbes in health and diseases?

Numerous studies have shown that the bacteria in your gut can help establish your entire immune system. They are responsible for total body health and keeping us well.

Skin Condition FAQs

What is psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a disease of the immune system. There are two chemicals that are too present in people with psoriasis; Interleukin 17 and Interleukin 23. People with psoriasis produce too much of these, causing too much skin to be produced and not enough to be shed, causing a piled up called 'plaques'.

What bacteria is associated with psoriasis?

The studies show that there are a range of bacteria associated with psoriasis, but we don't know whether they are a cause or an effect of the condition.

What are some of the common symptoms of psoriasis?

The most noticeable symptom is plaques, which are often dry and itchy and can lead to bleeding due to scratching. However due the effects of this, it can cause concerns in many more areas such as sleep and mental health.

What is the impact on mental health for those living with psoriasis?

Studies show that anxiety and depression can be increased with people living with psoriasis. This can be due to insecurities around the look of plaque-covered skin and also lack of sleep caused by irritable skin, which has a knock on effect on our mental health and wellbeing.

Is psoriasis linked to gut health?

It is not fully understood how the gut barrier may be related to psoriasis.

Some studies from the 1970s have suggested that in individuals with psoriasis, the gut barrier may be compromised and allow substances to enter the gut and cause inflammation and irritation.

However, further research is needed to confirm this potential link.

AxisBiotix-Ps FAQs

Collapsible content

What is AxisBiotix and how was it developed and tested in the lab?

AxisBiotix-Ps is a blend of 4 different bacteria, put together in a lab to help those suffering with psoriasis by lowering the levels of Interleukin 17 and Interleukin 23 and enhancing the gut barrier.

Why should I take AxisBiotix-Ps and what are the benefits?

We believe that by supplementing our diet with the right bacteria we can help our skin.

AxisBiotix-Ps was designed to do this and in a consumer study, 72% of participants reported that their skin felt better after taking the supplement for 28 days.

Taking Axisbiotix-Ps can be part of your daily routine to help you care for your skin.

What’s in AxisBiotix-Ps?

AxisBiotix-Ps is a blend of natural and live bacteria that have been specifically selected to help support skin health. The AxisBiotix-Ps Complex: Each sachet contains stabilising agents and approximately 4 billion live bacteria selected to help your skin.

Ingredients

Maize Starch, Maltodextrin, Potassium Chloride, Hydrolysed Rice Protein, Magnesium Sulphate, Manganese Sulphate.

How does AxisBiotix-Ps work?

AxisBiotix-Ps contains a bacterial blend that is specifically developed to address the high levels of the circulatory inflammatory agent Interleukin-17. By dampening the levels of IL-17, and fixing up the gut barrier, we believe that we can reduce inflammation and help support most of the skin symptoms of psoriasis, such as redness, itchiness, flaky skin, or dryness.

Can I mix AxisBiotix-Ps with food?

We recommend you take AxisBiotix-Ps on an empty stomach in the morning before breakfast. Ideally you will take with lukewarm water or milk, but you can also add it to yoghurt if you prefer. DO NOT dissolve AxisBiotix-Ps in hot drinks, or acidic drinks such as fruit juices.

Is AxisBiotix-Ps gluten free and/or dairy free?

AxisBiotix-Ps has no added allergens. However, our current production process does NOT allow us to claim that the product is gluten free or dairy free. We are working closely with our manufacturers to be able to make these claims in the near future.

Can I take AxisBiotix-Ps with other supplements?

Yes, it is ok to take AxisBiotix-Ps with other supplements. However, we would advise against taking AxisBiotix-Ps with other probiotics as they can make our bacterial blend inactive and non-efficacious.

Can I take AxisBiotix-Ps if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

Yes. However, AxisBiotix-Ps is a food supplement and will be part of your diet, so as with any other dietary changes during pregnancy or breastfeeding, we recommend that you check with your healthcare professional first.

Is AxisBiotix-Ps suitable for children?

AxisBiotix-Ps is suitable for children from the age of 3 years old.

Can AxisBiotix-Ps lead to abdominal discomfort?

Some people may feel some abdominal discomfort when they start taking bacterial supplements such as AxisBiotix-Ps and that will be normal. The intake of friendly bacteria can lead to a rebalancing of your gut. They influence some of the activities of your resident gut bacteria, and in doing so may impact how your gut feels. This discomfort should only take a few days. If this persists you should stop taking the product and consult your healthcare professional.

How long will it take before I notice any benefits?

The time at which benefits may be noticed will vary by the individual. Our skin cycles every 28 days and so it’s possible you may only notice a benefit after this time. If your health is already good, the blend may be more preventative, and you may not notice immediate benefits.

When it comes to food supplements one size doesn’t fit all, so we can’t guarantee success for everyone. If you are not happy with our product, please contact us.

I am intolerant/allergic to one or more ingredients. What should I do?

If you are allergic or intolerant to one of our ingredients, you should NOT take AxisBiotix-Ps.
